LOGAN, Utah – Utah State soccer head coach Manny Martins announced the addition of two defenders who will join the team in 2025 in Abbie Kotter, a transfer from BYU, and Emily Ibsen, a transfer from Adams State.

Kotter, a native of Providence, Utah, will join the squad as a redshirt sophomore. She spent two years with the Cougars in 2020 and 2021 before serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and returning to Provo in 2024. Prior to her mission, Kotter made 23 appearances and two starts for BYU, logging nearly 700 minutes on the pitch. In 2021, she totaled three goals, including the game-winner against Missouri as she helped her team to an NCAA Tournament runner-up finish.

Prior to her time at BYU, Kotter prepped at Ridgeline High School, where she helped lead the Riverhawks to a 2019 Utah 4A runner-up finish as she earned all-state first team honors as a senior.

Kotter also played club soccer with La Roca FC and was named a United Soccer Coaches All-American in both 2018 and 2019, and was named one of the top 50 players in the nation by Top Drawer Soccer in 2019. Her team won three-straight state cup championships and was a national championship series semifinalist in 2017. She was also a member of the U16 US Girls National Team and trained with the US Soccer Girls Development Academy.

Ibsen, originally from Parker, Colorado, will join the Aggies as a senior. As a three-year starter for Adams State, she has logged over 3,300 career minutes, while making 43 starts and 45 appearances for the Grizzlies. Ibsen earned all-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference honorable mention honors as a sophomore in 2023. As a junior in 2024, she played a team-high 1,307 minutes, starting all 16 games she played.

Prior to her collegiate career, Ibsen prepped at Ponderosa High School in Parker, Colorado. As a senior in 2022, she was a team captain and the team's defensive player of the year and she was named to the all-league second team.
