Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Jake Ellis

LOGAN, Utah — Utah State women's basketball (4-19, 1-11 MW) lost to Air Force 78-72 on Saturday afternoon inside the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.

Junior guard Macy Smith scored a season-high 16 points, including two 3-pointers, to lead USU on offense. Three other Aggies finished in double-digit scoring as junior guard Cheyenne Stubbs totaled 14 points and junior guard/forward Samiana Suguturaga and senior forward Allyzee Verdan each put in 10.

The Falcons built their lead in the first half from the 3-point line as Air Force shot twice as many triples as Utah State, 14 to seven, making more than double the total of the Aggies, five to two. Despite USU outscoring the Falcons in the paint 14-4, Utah State went into the locker room down 39-28.

After trailing by as much as 17 points in the third quarter, the Aggies would cut the Air Force lead down to seven points three times in the final 90 seconds of the game, on a 3-pointer by junior guard Livia Knapp and two layups from Stubbs. However, the Falcons would answer at the free-throw line on each ensuing possession. A Stubbs buzzer-beating triple was too little, too late as Air Force would secure a 78-72 road victory.

Utah State finished the game shooting 47.3 percent (26-of-55) from the field, 43.8 percent (7-of-16) behind the arc and 81.3 percent (13-of-16) at the free-throw line. The Falcons logged 46.7 percent (28-of-60) from the field, 33.3 percent (7-of-21) from downtown and 83.3 percent (15-of-18) at the charity stripe.

Sophomore guard Milahnie Perry was the difference maker for the academy as she scored a game-high 24 points.
