LOGAN, Utah – Utah State men's tennis lost its first match of the 2024 competition season 4-3 to Denver this Sunday at the Sports Academy and Racquet Club in Logan, Utah.
 
The Aggies earned the doubles point to start the match. At the No. 3 spot, junior David Martirosian and freshman Mohammad Alkotop won 6-1. At the No. 1 spot, senior Stijn Paardekooper and sophomore Nuno Pinheiroi won 6-4.
 
In singles, Pinheiroi won in straight sets at the No. 4 spot (6-4, 6-4) and freshman Philipp Rein won in three sets at the No. 6 spot (6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (9)).
 
Senior Bodin Zarkovic lost in three sets at the No. 1 spot (3-6, 6-3, 3-6), Paardekooper fell at the No. 2 spot in three sets (3-6, 6-0, 1-6), junior Sergi Micó Fenollar lost in straight sets at the No. 3 spot (3-6, 6-7 (10)) and Alkotop fell in straight sets at the No. 5 spot (4-6, 3-6).
 
USU heads to Phoenix, Arizona, next week to take on Santa Clara on Saturday, Feb. 17, and Grand Canyon on Sunday, Feb. 18.
