LOGAN, Utah — Utah State women's basketball (5-22, 2-12 MW) lost to Colorado State (17-9, 8-7 MW) 90-68 on Saturday afternoon inside the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.
Three junior guards scored in double digits in the effort for the Aggies as Cheyenne Stubbs led the Aggies with 21 points, Ivory Finley put up a season-high 19 and Skye Miller tallied 14. Finley was Utah State's leading rebounder grabbing six boards, while Stubbs totaled five.
The Aggies opened the game with a bucket from junior guard/forward Samiana Suguturaga. After a 3-pointer from Finley, USU captured its only lead of the game, maintaining it until a 15-0 Colorado State run began three minutes into the contest. USU got back on the board in the final minute of the quarter as Suguturaga his two free throws and Stubbs nailed a jumper. CSU led 22-11 after the first 10 minutes.
Midway through the second quarter, Utah State would cut the Ram lead down to five points after 3-pointers from freshman forward Gracie Johnson, Stubbs and Finley. A minute later, Colorado State responded with an 8-0 surge to expand its lead back to 15 points. Stubbs stopped the bleeding before halftime with back-to-back jumpers as Utah State trailed 46-35 at the break.
CSU kept its foot on the gas in the third quarter, extending the lead to 29 points while outscoring USU 19-2 over a five-minute stretch.
After trading free throws and baskets over the first five minutes of the fourth quarter, Utah State whittled the Colorado State lead down to 19 points, 82-63, with three minutes remaining on an 8-0 Aggie run. The Rams ended the surge with a 3-pointer and went on to close out a 90-68 road victory matching Aggie scores over the last three minutes.
Utah State finished the game shooting 34.8 percent (24-of-69) from the field, 31.8 percent (7-of-22) behind the arc and 76.5 percent (13-of-17) at the free-throw line.
The one-two punch of graduate guard McKenna Hofschild and sophomore guard Marta Leimane made the difference for Colorado State. Hofschild scored a game-high 31 points and Leimane added 24 of her own. The Rams logged 59.0 percent (36-of-61) from the field, 61.5 percent (8-of-13) from downtown and 76.9 percent (10-of-13) at the charity stripe.
