LOGAN, Utah — Coming off a title-winning performance in the USU-hosted Roman Ruiz Speed and Power Meet, Utah State track & field sophomore Logan Hammer has been named the Mountain West Men's Field Athlete of the Week. 

Hammer, a native of Nampa, Idaho, claimed the title in the men's pole vault, clearing 5.37 meters (17-7.25). His personal record ranks as the third-best in Utah State history.

Hammer leads the Mountain West in the pole vault this season and is ranked 23rd in the nation.

Hammer topped his previous PR of 5.21 meters (17-1) set at the New Mexico Team Open earlier this season. That mark ranked fifth in USU history. 

It is the second time this season an Aggie has been named the MW Men's Field Athlete of the Week as junior Godwin Charles won the honor on Jan. 16 for his triple jump mark of 15.74 meters (51-7.75) at the Snake River Open. 

Utah State returns to action on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 9 and 10 in three meets across the West and one in the East. The Aggies will compete at the Husky Classic in Seattle, Washington, the Don Kirby Invitational in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the Mountain State Games in Pocatello, Idaho, and the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
