SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – Utah State softball (19-16, 3-7 MW) fell to in-state foe Utah Monday evening in Salt Lake City, losing 9-1 in a five-inning contest.
The hosts struck first in this one, putting a pair of runs on the board in the bottom of the first inning with a two-RBI single. Utah State followed with its lone run of the evening in the top of the second when sophomore infielder
Alex Bunton sent a shot over the fence in left center, her fifth home run of the season.
The Utes gained separation with a six-run second, an inning which included a grand slam. The third and fourth innings were scoreless for both sides, before Utah scored on an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth to secure an eight-run lead and walk it off in a run-ruled contest.
Utah State totaled four hits, led by two from Bunton, while Utah had 13 in the contest.
In the circle for the Aggies, it was senior
Jessica Stewart starting and pitching the first 1.1 innings with seven earned runs allowed. She was relieved by graduate
Katie Zuniga, who threw two strikeouts and allowed two earned runs in 3.0 innings of action.

Utah State (19-16, 3-6 MW) now returns home to Johnson Field on Wednesday, April 3, for a doubleheader against Nevada. Games will begin at 1 p.m. and approximately 3:30 p.m.
