Game Recap: Softball |

LOGAN, Utah – Utah State softball (21-21, 5-10 MW) fell to Mountain West-foe Colorado State in five innings during the second game of the three-game series Saturday afternoon, losing 13-3.

Utah State started things off defensively with a three-up, three-down top of the first inning. Offensively, freshman outfielder Tatum Silva and sophomore catcher Grace Matej each singled in the bottom of the first, but the Aggies were left scoreless to complete the inning.

The Rams were the first on the board as they scored one run in the second. Senior pitcher Jessica Stewart left runners on second and third stranded as she made her way out of the top of the inning. In the bottom of the inning, junior infielder Claudia Medina took first with a walk and then senior outfielder Ali Ashner hit a line drive to left field which brought Medina home for the first Aggie run of the game.

Colorado State rallied with five runs in the top of the third to extend its lead. In the bottom of the inning, sophomore infielder Alex Bunton singled to left field, advancing Silva to third. Gonzalez tacked on another run with an RBI single to center field.

After a three-run home run from the Rams in the fourth, sophomore pitcher Hailey McLean took over for sophomore Tess Bumiller in the circle for the final out. On the offensive side of things, Medina was the only Aggie with action as she singled in the bottom of the inning.

In the top of the fifth, Colorado State extended its lead with another four runs scored. The Aggies tagged another run on as Matej hit one over the fence for her fifth home run of the season. Gonzalez finished the day by going three-for-three in her at bats with a single for the final hit.
