LOGAN, Utah — Utah State track and field junior
Max Wehrli has been named the America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending on Sunday, April 14. The award is voted on by a state-wide media panel.
With its sponsorship of the Student-Athlete of the Week, America First Credit Union donates funds directly to support student-athlete scholarships.
Wehrli broke his own school record in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase last weekend by taking 13th with a time of 8:36.30 in the Invite Section at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, California. That time ranks seventh in the nation and first in the Mountain West this season.
Next week, Utah State hosts the Aggie Invitational on Friday and Saturday, April 19-20, at Ralph Maughan Track Stadium in Logan.

MEN'S TENNIS – Senior Bodin Zarkovic (Belgrade, Serbia) posted a combined 4-0 record last week in helping Utah State notch Mountain West home wins against Nevada (4-0) and UNLV (7-0). Against the Wolf Pack, Zarkovic teamed with junior Sergi Micó Fenollar for a 7-6 (5) win at the second doubles position to help USU claim the doubles point. He also posted a straight sets win at No. 1 singles (6-3, 6-1). Against the Rebels. Zarkovic again teamed with Fenollar for a 6-4 win at the second doubles position to help USU win the doubles point. He then posted a straight sets win at No. 1 singles (7-6 (5), 7-6 (5).
WOMEN'S TENNIS – Senior Laura Fernanda Eugenio De Hilario (Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico) teamed with fellow senior Zeynep Naz Ozturk to post a 2-0 record in their doubles matches last week against Nevada and San José State. De Hilario had both of her singles matches left unfinished as USU lost to the Wolf Pack and Spartans by final scores of 4-0.
SOFTBALL – Sophomore catcher Grace Matej (Orangevale, California) led Utah State in an 0-4 showing last week as the Aggies fell on the road to Southern Utah (L, 8-10) and was swept at home by Colorado State (L, 4-5; L, 3-13 (5); L, 3-14 (5)). Matej began the week by going 4-for-5 with a run scored against SUU, then followed that with a 1-for-4 performance at the plate with a run scored in game one against CSU. In the second game against the Rams, she went 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run, an RBI and a run scored, and then closed out the week with a 1-for-3 performance with a run scored. In total, Matej hit .533 (8-for-15) on the week with four runs scored, a home run and one RBI. She also recorded 11 putouts with one assist.
WOMEN'S OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD – Senior
Abbey Bryant (Santa Clarita, California) posted a Mountain West-leading 13.37-second 100-meter hurdles time to place second at the Beach Invitational last weekend. That time is tied for 53rd in the nation and ranks second all-time in USU history. Bryant also posted a fifth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.50 and a 16th-place finish in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 47.64 at the Pacific Coast Invitational.
