Box Score SAN DIEGO, California – Utah State men's tennis clinched the Mountain West regular season title on Saturday with a 4-0 win at San Diego State (14-6, 3-3 MW) to conclude the regular season. Overall, it is USU's fourth MW regular season tennis championship dating back to 2016.
 
"The guys knew what was on the line today and they came ready to play," said USU head coach Aaron Paajanen. "I am so happy for them and what they accomplished this season."
 
Utah State (18-4, 5-1) started the match by earning the doubles point. At the first position, senior Stijn Paardekooper and sophomore Nuno Pinheiro posted a 6-4 win, while junior Sergi Micó Fenollar and graduate senior Bodin Zarkovic posted a 6-4 win at the second position. Junior David Martirosian and freshman Mohammad Alkotop were up 5-3 when their match was left unfinished.
 
In singles play, Zarkovic earned the first point at the No. 1 spot in straight sets (6-3, 6-3). Fenollar quickly followed and posted a win in straight sets at the No. 3 spot (7-5, 6-2). And Alkotop posted a win at the No. 4 spot in straight sets (6-3, 6-3) to clinch the match for the Aggies.
 
Paardekoooper, Pinheiro and freshman Philipp Rein's matches were all left unfinished.
 
"We have a very short time to enjoy today's win. Next week, we will be back and getting ready for the tournament," added Paajanen.
 
Utah State will be the top seed heading into the 2024 Mountain West Championships, which begins on Wednesday, April 24. USU's opponent and match time will be announced this weekend by the Conference.
