Mountain West Announces 25th Season Men’s and Women’s Tennis Teams

LOGAN, Utah - With the men's and women's 2024 Mountain West Championships scheduled for this week, the conference office announced Monday some of the top collegiate tennis players that have competed in the MW over the past 25 years.
 
Two former Aggies, Jaime Barajas from the men's program and McKenzie Davis from the women's program, are members of the 25th-season teams.

Barajas was a four-year letter winner for Utah State from 2015-18 and helped the Aggies win three-straight MW regular season championships from 2016-18, along with a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances (2017, 2018).
 
Barajas, a native of Woodland Hills, California, earned MW Player of the Year honors in 2016, was named all-MW singles in 2016 and 2018, all-MW doubles in 2018 and MW Player of the Week seven times.
 
Barajas has 152 combined singles and doubles wins, which is the most in school history. He also sits at the top in the USU record books for the most singles wins at 89, the most dual match singles wins at 59 and the most dual match doubles wins at 49. He also ranks third all-time in school history with 63 total doubles wins and fifth in fall tournament doubles wins at 14.
 
In single-season records, Barajas is fourth all-time in school history in combined singles and doubles wins as he posted 46 total wins during the 2017-18 season. His 25 singles wins during his freshman and senior seasons is tied for the third-most in Aggie history, while his 24 singles wins as a sophomore are the fourth-most. In fact, his 25 singles wins during his freshman season were a school record at the time.
 
Davis was a four-year letter-winner for the Aggies from 2012-15 and is the winningest singles player in school history. She ranks first all-time in school history in combined wins (168), total singles wins (91) and dual match wins (65). In doubles play, Davis ranks first all-time in school history with 55 dual match wins and 77 overall wins.
 
Davis, a native of Salt Lake City, Utah, earned all-Mountain West singles honors as both a junior and senior and all-MW doubles honors as a senior in 2015. She also earned MW Player of the Week twice during her career.
 
Davis holds the top two spots in the Utah State record books for the most singles wins in a season as he 19 wins in 2015 are a school record, while her 17 wins in 2014 are the second-most. Furthermore, her 28 total wins her senior season are the second-most in school history.
 
The 2024 Mountain West Championships for men's and women's tennis will be played in Las Vegas, Nevada. The men's tennis team heads into the tournament as the number one seed, earning a first-round bye. They will compete in the semi-finals on Thursday, April 25, either against San Diego State or Nevada. The women's team enters the tournament as a 10th seed, playing Fresno State on Wednesday, April 24, at 1 p.m.
