LOGAN, Utah – Utah State head softball coach Todd Judge announced the signing of transfer infielder Lyndsey Madrigal to the 2025 roster on Friday.
Madrigal, a native of Price, Utah, joins the Aggies as a senior after beginning her collegiate career at Salt Lake Community College then spending last season at BYU. There, she appeared in 15 games with five starts in 2024.
"Lyndsey is an interesting recruit. She had 37 home runs while hitting over .500 her sophomore year at Salt Lake Community College, so she's a little bit of an anomaly, because most power hitters do not hit for average, and she does," Judge said. "Lyndsey is someone who gives us a lot more pop in our lineup. As much as we're trying to get more athletic in certain areas, we're also trying to increase the amount of balls we get out of the yard.
"She's going to give us a lot of extra power in the middle of the lineup, while also being able to hit for average. She can play both corners and can catch, which gives us a bit of utility in the infield. We're very, very excited about having her on board."
At Salt Lake Community College, Madrigal achieved NJCAA First Team All-American status in back-to-back seasons as she helped the Bruins to a combined 79-29 record in her two years there while winning a region championship in 2023. As a sophomore, Madrigal was named the Region 18 Player of the Year as she posted an outstanding .529 batting average (83-for-157) with 99 RBIs and a program record 37 home runs, ranking second in the NJCAA. She drew 38 walks and struck out just 13 times that season as she had a 1.338 slugging percentage.
During her two years at SLCC, Madrigal had a combined total of 156 hits, 123 runs scored, 157 RBIs, 54 home runs and 37 doubles. As a fielder, she was responsible for 351 putouts and 36 assists with 14 errors.
Madrigal prepped at Carbon High School in Price, Utah, where she was a four-year letterwinner. As a senior in 2021, she set a Utah state record with a .728 season batting average. She posted a state-record 18-straight hits, and also earned spots in the state record book for home runs in a season (17 - 5th), RBIs in a season (60 - 6th) and doubles in a season (17 - 8th).
