LOGAN, Utah — Utah State's Director of Track & Field and Cross Country,
Artie Gulden, announced on Tuesday his program's cross country schedule for the 2024 campaign.
"We are excited about this upcoming cross country season," Gulden said. "Our schedule is set to try to give both teams the best opportunity to qualify for the NCAA Championships. We have a good mix of local meets as well as competitions further away. Those meets we have to travel farther distances will give our kids the chance to compete against teams from other NCAA regions. If we can beat some of the best teams from other regions that should give us a great chance to return to NCAAs in November."
The cross country slate features 10 meets, including the Mountain West Championships (November 1, in Colorado, Colorado), NCAA Mountain Regionals (November 15, in Reno, Nevada) and NCAA Championships (November 23, in Madison, Wisconsin).
USU will open its season by hosting the Utah State Alumni Challenge at the Steve and Dona Reeder Cross Country Course on Saturday, August 31.
Following their season- and home-opening meet, the Aggies will head south for the BYU Autumn Classic on Friday, Sept. 13, in Provo, Utah. Utah State will wrap up the month in Riverside, California, for the UCR Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 21.
At the beginning of October, USU will visit Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, for the Lehigh University-hosted Paul Short Run on Saturday, Oct. 5. Six days later, the Aggies will return to Logan for their final home meet, the Steve T. Reeder Memorial Invitational on Friday, Oct. 11.
Utah State will travel across the country again for the 2024 Wisconsin Pre-Nationals on Saturday, Oct. 19 in Madison. USU wraps up its regular season in Salt Lake City for the Utah Open on Thursday, Oct. 24.
The Aggies will open their postseason on Friday, Nov. 1, with the Mountain West Championships in Fort Collins, Colorado.
The NCAA Mountain Regionals will be held in Reno, Nevada, on Friday, Nov.15. The NCAA Championships are slated for Saturday, Nov. 23, in Madison, Wisconsin.
Including its two home meets, Utah State will compete in four total meets in the state of Utah. The Aggies will race across six different states with meets also held in California, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Colorado and Nevada.
To conclude the 2023 campaign, the Aggie women placed eighth (217 points) and the Aggie men took 10th (300) at the NCAA Mountain Regional Championships in Lubbock, Texas. Junior
Emma Thornley was named all-region, finishing 23rd with a time of 20:15.9.
Prior to regionals, both USU teams took fifth at the Mountain West Championships in their respective races. Thornley earned first-team all-MW honors with her fourth-place finish at a time of 20:23.3.
