LOGAN, Utah - Utah State's men's tennis sophomore
Mohammad Alkotop won in an International Tennis Federation (ITF) World Tennis Tour tournament in Monastir, Tunisia, earlier this month in a double's competition. Alkotop is the second Aggie in history to win in an ITF tournament while still being a member of the USU team.
Alkotop played alongside his brother, Mousa Alkotop, in the tournament. In the first round, they posted a straight-set win (6-3,6-3), and in the quarter-finals, they advanced in a walkover. In the semi-finals, the brothers beat the doubles team that ranked second in the tournament in two sets (7-6(8), 6-3). In the final match, the Alkotop brothers won in straight sets (6-4, 6-2).
With the tournament win, Alkotop has collected 15 Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) points. He has moved up in the double's world rankings 12 spots and has earned a career-high of 1469 points on the ATP Tour world ranking.
During the summer tennis tournament season, former Aggie
Stijn Paardekooper notched a doubles ITF World Tennis Tour set in Amstelveen, Netherlands. Paardekooper played with doubles partner Brian Bozemoj. The two won in the first round, quarter-finals, semi-finals and the final round of the tournament in straight sets.
