DIRECTOR OF TRACK & FIELD/CROSS COUNTRY ARTIE GULDEN
"We were really pleased with a lot of the results last week and look to build on them this week, keeping the positive momentum moving forward. We are hoping for some improvements from those that competed last week and strong openers from those who will be competing in their first indoor meet."
REWRITING THE RECORD BOOK
Junior
Logan Hammer, who holds the USU outdoor pole vault record, made Aggie history by clearing 5.50 meters (18-0.5) at the BYU Indoor Invitational on January 11, setting the Utah State indoor pole vault record. His mark bested the previous record of 5.45 meters (17-10.5), which was set by Lance White in 1994 and matched by Mark Calvin in 1998. The native of Nampa, Idaho, is one of five Utah State field athletes to own the indoor and outdoor school records in a single event, joining
Godwin Charles (men's triple jump), Brenn Flint (women's shot put), Sonia Grabowska (women's pole vault) and Chari Hawkins (women's high jump).
AWARDS SEASON
Utah State student-athletes earned four Mountain West weekly accolades on January 14, as announced by the conference. Freshman
Daniel Chase won MW Men's Track Athlete of the Week and Men's Freshman of the Week, junior
Logan Hammer won MW Men's Field Athlete of the Week and freshman
Abbie Scott won MW Women's Freshman of the Week. This is the first MW weekly honor for Chase and Scott, while Hammer collected his fifth career honor. Hammer is the first Utah State track and field athlete to earn five or more MW weekly accolades since Dillon Maggard earned nine from 2017-18.
STILL AT THE PEAK
Utah State returns six all-MW performers from last year as the Aggie men placed fourth at the MW Indoor Championships with 94 points and the women finished 10th with 27 points.
The USU men's distance medley relay team earned all-conference honors for their 10:07.76 time, taking first place at the MW Indoor Championships, as graduate
Brennan Benson, sophomore
Landon Bott, and junior
Drew Hogan return from that group. Benson, who won the mile with a time of 4:11.48, and Bott, who placed second in the 800 meters with a time of 1:48.81, which ranks third in school history, were additionally recognized as all-conference honorees. Senior
Kelton Chenworth claimed his second all-conference honor for his second-place finish in the high jump with a mark of 2.06 meters.
Logan Hammer, an outdoor All-American, won the pole vault by clearing 5.06 meters, while fellow junior
