Utah State’s Bronco Mendenhall Announces Football Strength & Conditioning Staff

LOGAN, Utah – A day after announcing his coaching and support staff, new Utah State head football coach Bronco Mendenhall announced his strength and conditioning staff for the 2025 season on Thursday.
 
Kody Cooke has been named the new head football strength and conditioning coach. Stine (Stee-nuh) Emrick, Richard Burney Jr. and Kevin Griffin join the staff as assistant strength and conditioning coaches.
 
Kody Cooke – Head Strength and Conditioning Coach
Cooke brings 13 years of coaching experience to Utah State. During his career, he assisted in the development of eight bowl teams.
 
Cooke came to Utah State after spending the 2024 season as Tulsa's Assistant Athletics Director of Performance and Strength for football. He previously worked for the Golden Hurricane in 2012.
 
Before his time at Tulsa, Cooke spent four seasons at Hawai'i. He served as the strength and conditioning coordinator for the Rainbows football program from 2020-23, including as its head strength and conditioning coach in 2022 and 2023.
 
In addition to his stops at Tulsa (2012, 2024) and Hawai'i (2020-23), Cooke coached at Virginia Tech (2018-19) and Arizona State (2013-17).
 
Stine Emrick – Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach
Emrick brings six years of coaching experience to the Aggies, including her most recent stop as an assistant strength and conditioning coach for football at Tulsa in 2024.
 
She has served in various roles on strength and conditioning staffs at Northern Arizona (2020-23), Colorado State (2019) and Louisiana Tech (2019).
 
Richard Burney Jr. – Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach
Burney brings four years of coaching experience to the Aggies, and the 2025 season will be his second working with Mendenhall after serving as the associate director of athletic performance at New Mexico in 2024.
 
Burney played for Mendenhall at Virginia for five seasons.
 
In addition to his time at New Mexico, Burney worked in strength and conditioning at SMU (2022-23) and Virginia (2021).
 
Kevin Griffin – Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach
Griffin brings three years of coaching experience to Utah State, including a one-year stint at Tulsa as the lead track & field strength and conditioning coach. In addition to his efforts with track & field student-athletes, he assisted with football.
 
Before Tulsa, Griffin spent the 2023 season at Hawai'i as a graduate assistant strength coach and the 2022 campaign at Nevada as a strength coach intern.
