Box Score PORTLAND, Oregon – Utah State men's tennis lost a hard-fought 4-3 match at Portland on Saturday to fall to 1-1 on the young season.
 
Doubles
Utah State took the early lead by clinching the doubles point with wins at the second and third positions. At the second position, sophomore Mohammad Alkotop and freshman Dmitri Goubin posted a 6-1 win, while senior Sergi Micó Fenollar and sophomore Keanu Rigby notched a 6-2 win at the third position to claim the point. At the first position, senior David Martirosian and freshman Eliot Nobel had their match left unfinished with the duo trailing 4-3.
 
Singles
Alkotop gave the Aggies their first singles point with a win at the No. 3 spot (6-4, 6-2) to give the visitors a 2-0 lead. Portland, however, won the next four matches at the second, first, fifth and fourth positions, before Goubin closed out the contest with a three sets win (6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (10-8) at the sixth position to make the final score 4-3.
 
In other matches, Micó Fenollar lost in three sets at the No. 1 spot (2-6, 6-4, 1-6), Martirosian lost in straight sets at the No. 2 spot (2-6, 3-6), freshman Roman Venger lost in straight sets at the No. 4 spot (3-6, 3-6) and freshman Eemil Pasanen lost in straight sets at the No. 5 spot (2-6, 1-6).

Utah State returns to the court on Sunday, Jan. 26, as it plays at Portland State (0-1) at 11 a.m. (MT).
