After trading punts to begin the game, both sides then traded field goals with junior kicker
Tanner Rinker connecting from 20 yards out to tie the game. Hawaii's Micah Alejado then threw an 18-yard touchdown to Pofele Ashlock. The Aggies responded with a seven-play, 47-yard drive capped off with a one-yard TD plunge by M. Davis. After stopping a fake punt from the Rainbow Warriors, USU then took the lead on the first play of their ensuing drive as Jacobs hauled in a 30-yard TD catch from Garcia on a trick play. Alejado pushed the Rainbow Warriors back in front with seven- and 31-yard TD throws to Ashlock sandwiched around a 40-yard field goal from Rinker that sent the Aggies into halftime down 24-20.
A failed onside kick from Hawaii gave USU excellent starting field position to begin the second half. The Aggies took advantage three plays later with Barnes finding Lane for a 32-yard touchdown to push the Aggies back in front. A blocked PAT, however, helped turn the momentum in favor of the Rainbow Warriors, who responded with 20 unanswered points on a pair of rushing touchdowns and field goals. Utah State twice drove into Hawaii territory in the fourth quarter to attempt a comeback but were thwarted on both drives as the Rainbow Warriors sealed the 44-26 win.
