SAN DIEGO, California – Utah State men's tennis wrapped up play at the 68th Annual Intercollegiate Championships, highlighted by a quarterfinal finish from sophomore Roman Venger and qualifying wins from sophomore Dmitri Goubin and freshman Emmanuel Alex.
Venger led the Aggies with a strong showing, earning a 6-1, 6-2 win over San Diego State's William Kleege in the opening round and a 6-2, 6-4 victory against Santa Clara's John Kim, the tournament's fourth-seeded player, to advance to the quarterfinals.
Goubin and Alex each picked up wins in qualifying to reach the main draw with Goubin defeating BYU's Alexander Edmonston, 6-3, 6-0, and Alex posting a 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 victory over UC Irvine's Nathaniel Suh.
Sophomore Eliot Nobel added to Utah State's success in extra matches, earning a 6-4, 7-5 win against BYU's Hardy Owen.
