Utah State Continues Mountain West Play at New Mexico

Game will be televised live on Altitude Sports and the Mountain West Network on Saturday, Oct. 25, at 1 p.m.

LOGAN, Utah – Utah State (4-3, 2-1 MW) continues Mountain West play this weekend at New Mexico (4-3, 1-2 MW) on Saturday, Oct. 25, at 1 p.m. The game will be televised on Altitude Sports (Xfinity Ch. 1250) and the Mountain West Network with Robert Portnoy (play-by-play) and DonTrell Moore (analyst) on the call.

KICKOFF COVERAGE
• This will be just the fifth meeting in 31 previous games when both programs have a winning record and the first since 1964 when both teams were 3-1 when they played one another. The last time both programs played one another with non-losing records was 2015 when USU was 5-3 and UNM was 4-4.
 
• Utah State is 57-39 (.594) all-time in Mountain West play, including a 25-21 (.543) road record. USU has the third-best record against MW opponents since it joined the league in 2013. Boise State (84-17) has the best record, while San Diego State (64-33) has the second-best record. Overall, USU is 9-7 in its last 16 MW road games and 23-23 in its last 46 road games overall.
 
• Utah State first-year head coach Bronco Mendenhall spent the 2024 season at New Mexico and led the Lobos to a 5-7 record (3-4 MW). Previously, Mendenhall spent five seasons (1998-2002) at New Mexico as the defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach.
 
• Utah State has six players on its roster that played at New Mexico last year in senior CB Noah Avinger, senior S Bryson Taylor, redshirt junior S Bobby Arnold, junior RB Javen Jacobs , sophomore LS Hyrum Hatch and sophomore CB D'Angelo Mayes.    
 
• Utah State has seven assistant coaches on staff that coached at New Mexico in 2024 in defensive coordinator Nick Howell, special teams coordinator Shane Hunter, running backs coach Kirk Garner, quarterbacks coach Matt Johns, outside linebackers coach Jan Jorgensen, cornerbacks coach Charles Mack and defensive line coach Donte Wilkins. Additionally, 10 more USU support staff members were part of the 2024 UNM coaching staff.   
 
• Graduate QB Bryson Barnes has seven rushing touchdowns this year and is one shy of tying the single season school record for rushing touchdowns by a quarterback of eight that was set by Chuckie Keeton in 2012.
 
Barnes ranks first or second in the Mountain West in six different statistical categories. Overall, he is sixth in the nation in points responsible for per game at 17.7, ninth in total touchdowns with 20, 25th in rushing touchdowns (7), and 29th in passing touchdowns (12).
 
SERIES vs. NEW MEXICO
• Utah State holds a 17-14 all-time advantage in the series against New Mexico, which includes an 8-9 road record. USU had its seven-game winning streak in the series snapped last year as UNM posted a 50-45 road win. Overall, USU has won 10 of the last 14 games played against the Lobos. The first game played in the series was in Albuquerque on Dec. 1, 1951, with UNM winning 17-13. USU won the last meeting in Albuquerque in double overtime, 44-41, on Nov. 24, 2023. Overall, USU is 9-3 against the Lobos since joining the Mountain West in 2013.
 
• Utah State has won seven of its last eight games against New Mexico, including six by double digits, as it has out-scored the Lobos 315-192 (39.4-24.0) in those games. Overall, USU is 9-3 against UNM all-time in Mountain West games.
 
• Utah State and New Mexico will be meeting for the 32nd time this weekend in what is the 11th-most played series in school history.
