Utah State Soccer Falls to Boise State in Regular Season Finale

BOISE, Idaho — Utah State soccer (8-6-5, 5-2-3 MW) fell in its regular season finale Thursday night at the Boas Soccer Complex in Boise, losing to Boise State 3-0. 

The Aggies created plenty of opportunities early, taking six of the first half's eight total shots between the sides. Despite several strong looks, including a pair of shots on goal, they were held off the board in what was a scoreless first 45 minutes. 

All three of Boise State's goals came following the halftime break, as the Broncos netted goals in the 56th, 68th and 84th minutes.

MATCH NOTES

  • Utah State out-shot Boise State 10-7. This is the 17th time in 19 games this season that Utah State has had as many or more shots than its opponent. 

  • Leading USU in shots were freshman forward Samantha Sellers and junior midfielder Summer Diamond, who each recorded three shots. Diamond had a team-best two on frame. 

  • This loss snaps a three-game winning streak for Utah State, its longest of the season. 

  • This is the third time this season Utah State has been shut out in a loss. 

  • Utah State recorded five corners to Boise State's two. 

  • Graduate goalkeeper Taylor Rath played all 90 minutes in net for the Aggies, recording two saves. 

  • Along with Rath, three other players played the full match: Freshman defender Summer Sofonia, sophomore defender Kaeda Wilson and sophomore midfielder Rachel Reitz

  • With the loss, Utah State falls to 17-7-4 all-time against Boise State, including an 8-5-1 record in Boise. 

  • This loss snaps a streak of five-straight wins for Utah State over Boise State. 

 

UP NEXT
Utah State (8-6-5, 5-2-3 MW) will remain in Boise, Idaho, for the Mountain West Tournament which takes place Nov. 2-8. The Aggies will play in the quarterfinal round on Sunday. Nov. 2, with its seed and opponent to be determined.
