LOGAN, Utah – Defensive prowess and an outstanding double-double performance by senior forward Garry Clark helped Utah State men's basketball remain undefeated (4-0, 0-0 MW), as the Aggies took down UTEP 75-51 Saturday afternoon inside of Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.
The Utah State defense held the Miners to just 37 percent shooting from the field, while forcing 16 turnovers. The Aggies then took advantage of those turnovers, scoring 26 points as a direct result.
Clark entered the game for USU off the bench, but played 31 minutes while posting his third double-double of the year as he went for 20 points, 13 rebounds, three assists and three steals. It was an extremely efficient night for Clark, who posted his first 20-point game of the season on just six shots, going 5-of-6 from the field, but drawing 10 fouls and going 10-of-16 at the free throw line.
The Miners were suffocated early on, scoring just six points in the first 12 minutes of action to allow the Aggies to open up an early double-digit lead. USU led for over 37 minutes in this one, stretching its lead to as many as 29 points while never trailing by more than one.
While the Miners were able to pull back within a couple of possessions before the half, but an 11-0 run helped push the Aggie advantage back to 14 before the break. At the half, Utah State led 34-20.
The lead held steady through much of the second half, until a 13-0 run by Utah State during a three minute span leading into the final media timeout, highlighted by six-straight points for junior forward Karson Tempin, stretched the lead to 28 points at 72-44.
Along with Clark, five other Aggie players reached double-figures in the scoring column. He was joined by senior guard MJ Collins Jr., who had 13 points, freshman guard Elijah Perryman, who went for a career-best 11 points, and 10-point efforts for the trio of Templin, junior guard Mason Falslev, and senior guard Kolby King.
The Aggies also dominated on the glass, bringing down 41 total rebounds to UTEP's 24, including 14 offensive boards. Clark's 13 rebounds led they way for Utah State, with a seven-board night by Falslev next in line.
In total, Utah State shot 47.9 percent (23-of-48) from the floor, 26.1 percent (6-of-23) from 3-point range and 63.9 percent (23-of-36) at the charity stripe. UTEP shot 37.3 percent (19-of-51) from the field, 18.8 percent (3-of-16) from behind the arc and 52.6 percent (10-of-19) at the free throw line.

Utah State will hit the road for a pair of games next week, traveling to Charleston, South Carolina, for the Shriners Children's Charleston Classic. There, the Aggies will face Tulane on Friday, Nov. 21, at 11 a.m. (MT), then take on the winner of Boston College and Davison on Saturday, Nov. 23. Both games will be televised on ESPN2.
