LOGAN, Utah – Utah State men's basketball head coach Jerrod Calhoun announced on Monday the signing of in-state prep product Bryce Mella. A 6-foot-5 guard out of American Fork (Utah) High School, Mella will join the Aggies following a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
"Bryce fits everything we value in a high-impact perimeter player—he's got great size, length, versatility, and competitiveness," Calhoun said. "He has a great feel and can impact the game on both ends of the court. We love his upside and feel that his best basketball is ahead of him. Recruiting in-state players who understand our culture and take pride in representing Utah State is essential to our long-term success, and Bryce is exactly the type of home-grown talent we want in Logan."
Mella is a three-year letterwinner, beginning his prep career at Mountain View High School in Orem, Utah, where he played his freshman and sophomore seasons, before transferring to American Fork for his junior year in 2024-25. He has earned all-state honors from the Deseret News all three years of his high school career, including being named to the Utah 6A all-state second team as a junior.
Entering his senior campaign this year, Mella has already totaled over 1,000 career points and 200 rebounds. He's averaging 18.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.2 steals per game in his career across 56 games. During his junior campaign, he averaged 17.2 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists per contest.
