EUGENE, Oregon – Utah State women's basketball fell on the road at Oregon, 70-34, on Sunday afternoon at Matthew Knight Arena.
Oregon showcased its ability immediately, jumping out to an 8-0 lead to begin the game. The Aggies then showed their mettle, however, climbing back with a 7-2 burst featuring layups from senior forward
Rachel Wilson and freshman guard
Aitana Rosello Lopez, plus a 3-pointer by junior guard
Aaliyah Gayles. Utah State trimmed the deficit down to four points at 16-12 early in the second quarter after sophomore guard
Elise Livingston drew a foul on a layup and converted the and-one opportunity. USU kept within striking distance for much of the frame as senior forward
Rachel Wilson scored a pair of buckets. The Ducks, however, rebuilt a double-digit lead with an 8-2 run in the final minutes to enter halftime with a 32-20 advantage.
Utah State won the rebounding battle, 20-18, over the first 20 minutes. USU also held first-half advantages in second-chance points, 4-3.
Oregon's momentum continued into the second half with a 19-2 run out of the locker rooms from which the Aggies were unable to recover. Gayles led USU with eight points in the second half but the Ducks prevented Utah State from mounting a comeback attempt through to the final buzzer.
Gayles led the team with 11 points, also adding four rebounds and two steals. Senior center
