LOGAN, Utah – Utah State senior cornerback Noah Avinger has been named to the HERO Sports Group of Five All-American second team it was announced on Friday.
The Aggies were also listed in the Receiving Votes section of the final Group of Five Top 25 Media Poll.
The Group of Five includes teams and players from Conference USA, Sun Belt, Mid-American, American, and Mountain West.
Avinger, a 6-foot, 190-pound senior cornerback from Cerritos, Calif. (Servite HS/New Mexico) was named first-team All-MW this year as he played 897 snaps, the most by any defensive back in the conference, and has the second-highest Pro Football Focus grade among secondary players in the MW at 83.0.
Avinger has started all 12 games this season with six at safety and six at cornerback. He is third on the team with 84 tackles, which includes 1.0 sacks and 3.5 tackles for loss, and has three double-digit tackle outings to tie for the second-most on the squad. He leads the team with three interceptions and 10 pass breakups and has one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. On the season, Avinger ranks eighth in the MW and 91st in the nation in fumbles recovered with one (0.08 pg), and 10th in the MW and 50th in the nation in interceptions with three (0.25 pg).
