Men’s Tennis Set for Weekend at Home Against Idaho State and San Diego State

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State men's tennis returns to the Sports Academy & Racquet Club to host Idaho State on Friday, Feb. 14, at 11 a.m., before opening up Mountain West play against San Diego State on Sunday, Feb. 16, at 11 a.m.

HISTORY
Utah State is 40-44 all-time against Idaho State but has won nine straight dating back to 2014, and 18 of the previous 21 matches. The Bengals won 31 straight in the series from 1987 through 2001. Outside of this stretch, USU is 40-13 against ISU.
 
The Aggies are 9-4 all-time against San Diego State. USU had won eight straight in the series before falling to the Aztecs, 4-3, in the semifinal round of the Mountain West Championships last season.
                                                                              
ICYMI
Last time out, Utah State went 1-1 in a pair of road matches in Tucson, Arizona. The Aggies fell to No. 10 Arizona, 7-0, before recording a 5-2 over Loyola Marymount. USU took the doubles point agains the Lions and received singles wins from freshman Eliot Nobel and senior Sergi Micó Fenollar before sophomore Mohammad Alkotop delivered the clinching point with a three-set win at the third position of singles play for the Aggies. Freshman Roman Venger then pushed USU's win to 5-2 with a win at the No. 4 spot.
 
TITLE DEFENSE
Utah State went 18-5 during the 2024 dual match season, including a 5-1 mark during conference play en route to a regular season Mountain West title. The 2025 squad returns three letterwinners from last season, led by senior Sergi Micó Fenollar who went 14-4 and 11-3 in singles and doubles matches, respectively, and was named to the all-MW singles and doubles teams. Sophomore Mohammah Alkotop returns after going 12-7 in singles matches and 14-4 in doubles matches last season and was named the 2024 MW Freshman of the Year. Senior David Martirosian also returns after posting a 13-4 record in doubles play in 2024. USU also returns sophomore Keanu Rigby who went 4-4 in singles matches and 2-1 in doubles matches during the 2021 dual match season. Utah State brings in four freshmen to the 2025 roster in Dmitri Goubin, Eliot Nobel, Eemil Pasanen and Roman Venger.
