LOGAN, Utah – Utah State men's tennis improved to 4-2 on its spring season following a 4-3 home win against Idaho State on Friday at the Sports Academy & Racquet Club.

"I felt like we had a really good week of practice, and I was seeing things really starting to click with what we have been working on all year. It seemed like our guys had more confidence and were buying into what we are trying to do.
 
"To be honest, I'm quite disappointed in today's effort. I'm glad we got the win, but I had higher expectations because of how good this week was. Hopefully the guys recognize that they have to show up, because we have a big match here on Sunday."
 
Doubles
Utah State took the early lead by clinching the doubles point as sophomore Mohammad Alkotop and freshman Dmitri Goubin posted a 6-1 win at the second position, while senior Sergi Micó Fenollar and sophomore Keanu Rigby notched a 7-5 win at the third position. Senior David Martirosian and freshman Eliot Nobel had their match left unfinished at the first position as the duo was trailing 5-4.
 
Singles
Utah State won the first two singles matches to extend its lead to 3-0. Micó Fenollar won in straight sets at the No. 1 spot (6-2, 6-1) and Alkotop won in straight sets at the No. 3 spot (6-3, 6-1). Idaho State then posted consecutive wins as Martirosian lost at the No. 2 spot (7-5, 6-3) and freshman Roman Venger lost at the No. 4 spot (6-4, 6-4). Utah State was then able to clinch the match at the No. 5 spot as Goubin was victorious in straight sets (6-2, 6-4). Freshman Eemil Pasanen concluded the match with a hard-fought loss at the No. 6 spot for the Aggies (7-6 (7-5), 2-6, 1-0 (10-5).
 
Next Up
Utah State returns to the court on Sunday, Feb. 16, as it hosts Mountain West-foe San Diego State in both team's first conference match of the season.
