DENVER, Colorado - After dropping the doubles point to begin the match, No. 65-ranked Utah State men's tennis stormed back in singles play to defeat Jacksonville State, 4-3, on Saturday afternoon at the Denver Tennis Park. 
  
Doubles
The teams split the top two spots in the doubles lineup as sophomore Mohammad Alkotop and freshman Dmitri Goubin won, 7-5, at the No. 2 position while the Gamecocks claimed victory at the No. 1 spot. At court three, the doubles point came down to a tiebreaker where JSU ultimately won, 7-6 (5), to take the match's opening point.
 
Singles
Utah State stormed back to begin doubles play. At the top spot in the lineup, senior Sergi Micó Fenollar won, 6-2, 6-1, to tie the match at 1-1. Freshmen Roman Venger and Dmitri Goubin followed shortly after with identical 6-3, 6-2 wins at the third and fourth positions, respectively, putting USU up 3-1. Jacksonville Stat responded with a pair of straight-set wins at the sixth and fifth positions, leaving the fate of the match to the second position.
 
After winning the first set, Alkotop then clinched the Aggie victory in a lengthy tiebreak in the second set to win, 6-2, 7-6 (6), to give USU the 4-3 win.
 
Next Up
Utah State heads to Tempe, Arizona, to participate in the ASU Invite on Friday through Sunday, Feb. 28 through March 2. The Aggies will face three opponents in a tournament-style bracket that also includes No. 38 Arizona State, No. 14 Arizona, UTSA, No. 47 Washington, No. 32 Boise State, Liberty and Pacific.
