LOGAN, Utah – Utah State senior infielder
Giselle Gonzalez was named the Mountain West Softball Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
Gonzalez, a native of San Diego, California, helped the Aggies to a 4-1 showing at the Utah Tech-hosted Lyman Classic last week with wins over UC San Diego, Weber State, San Diego and Utah Tech. Gonzalez led the team with 13 RBIs, hitting five home runs on the week. She recorded at least one hit in all five games, including a 2-for-3 showing with two home runs, two runs scored and three RBIs against Weber State and a 3-for-4 performance against Utah Tech with three home runs, four runs scored and eight RBIs.
On the week, Gonzalez went 8-for-16 (.500) at the plate with five home runs, six runs scored, 13 RBIs, three bases on balls and a hit by pitch. She posted a .600 on base percentage with a 1.438 slugging percentage. While starting all five games in the field, she also recorded 42 putouts with one assist and no errors.
This is the first MW player of the week honor of Gonzalez's career.

Utah State (11-4, 0-0 MW) will travel to Phoenix, Arizona, next weekend, for a five-game slate at the ASU Invitational. There, the Aggies will face Oregon State, Grand Canyon, UTEP, Arizona State and Seattle. Game will be played from Feb. 28-March 2 at Arizona State's Alberta B. Farrington Stadium.
