LOGAN, Utah – Utah State women's basketball fell to UNLV, 89-51, on Wednesday night at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.
Against the top team in the Mountain West standings, the Aggies stood tall through the first 10 minutes. USU held UNLV to only 31.6 percent shooting from the field in the opening quarter and shot 2-of-7 from 3-point range themselves. Freshman guard/forward
Taliyah Logwood scored seven consecutive points for the Aggies in a span of two minutes, helping Utah State to draw within a single point of the Lady Rebels on multiple occasions in the first quarter and early in the second quarter. After battling to a near dead heat, however, UNLV showcased their prowess with a 20-4 run to take firm control of the contest and a 37-20 lead into halftime. The Aggies continued to battle in the second half but could not draw closer to the league-leading Rebels before the final buzzer.
Logwood led USU with 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting, also adding four rebounds, one block and a steal. Junior guard
Jamisyn Heaton posted team-highs of six rebounds and two blocks alongside five points and an assist. Both freshmen guards
Elise Livingston and
Carlie Latta posted three assists to lead the Aggies, also adding six and five points, respectively. Junior guard
Mia Tarver chipped in with eight points plus a team-high three steals.
The Aggies finished with 10 assists as a team, their 17th game with double-digit assists this season and their 10th in the past 11 games. USU shot 19-of-62 (30.6 percent) from the field and 7-of-28 (25.0 percent) from 3-point range.
