TUCSON, Arizona - Utah State men's tennis battled to a 5-2 victory over Loyola Marymount in a neutral match on Saturday at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.
  
Doubles
In a tightly contested battle, the Aggies emerged with the doubles point to begin the match. After the Lions took court one, sophomore Mohammad Alkotop and freshman Dmitri Goubin tied the match at one court apiece with a 6-3 win at the second position. At the No. 3 spot, senior Sergi Micó Fenollar and sophomore Keanu Rigby pulled through for a tiebreaker victory, 7-6 (5), to secure the doubles point for USU.
 
Singles
The Lions began singles play with a win to draw even at the fifth position. Freshman Eliot Nobel then restored Utah State's lead with a straight-set win at the sixth position, 6-2, 6-1, before Micó Fenollar doubled USU's lead with a 7-6, 6-4 victory at the top spot in the lineup. After LMU drew one back with a win at No. 2 singles, Alkotop then clinched the win with a three-setter at the third position, 6-0, 5-7, 6-4. Freshman Roman Venger then added an extra point for USU with a 5-7, 6-4, 7-6 (9-7) win at the fourth position.
 
Next Up
Utah State returns to Logan to host Idaho State at the Sports Academy & Racquet Club on Friday, Feb. 14, at 11 a.m. The Aggies will then face their first Mountain West opponent of the season at home against San Diego State on Sunday, Feb. 16, at 11 a.m.
