LOGAN, Utah – Utah State track & field senior
Joshua Hartvigsen was named to the All-Mountain West SAAC Community Service team, as announced by the conference office. Honorees were selected based on their promotion of and participation in community service activities on their respective campuses.
"One of the great things about coaching is being able to associate with so many high-quality young people, and Josh is certainly one of the best," said USU director of track & field and cross country
Artie Gulden. "He's worked tremendously hard as an athlete, but his service work with SAAC and in the community will have a lasting impact. We are super proud of all he's done and are grateful he's receiving this recognition."
Hartvigsen currently serves as the co-president of the Utah State Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. In his role, the East High School product leads, plans and organizes several activities every semester, fostering a sense of unity and belonging among the student-athletes of Utah State's 16 varsity sports programs. Events that he has spearheaded with SAAC include the Shop with a USU Athlete family event supporting Cache County Sub for Santa on Dec. 7, the Aggies Walk the Walk event hosted by USU Athletics Engagement on Jan. 22, and the upcoming 2025 Utah State Inclusive Sports Day on April 10.
Hartvigsen has also accumulated over 70 hours of community service and development between Jan. 1, 2024, and March 1, 2025. His community involvement includes the 2024 Walk to End Alzheimer's on Sept. 7 and a Thanksgiving food drive for the Cache Food Pantry on Nov. 20.
In competition, Hartvigsen ranks 11th in Utah State history in the indoor long jump with a career-long distance of 7.29 meters (23-11.25), which he set this season at the USU-hosted Roman Ruiz Speed and Power Invitational on Feb. 1. The senior has also competed in the 60 meters, 100 meters and 4x100-meter relay as an Aggie, helping Utah State to a sixth-place finish in the 4x100-meter relay at the 2024 Mountain West Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Hartvigsen, who has earned Academic All-Mountain West honors from 2022-24, is majoring in nutrition science. The son of Robert and Louise Hartvigsen is married to fellow Utah State track and field athlete
Alison Richter.
