LOGAN, Utah - Utah State men's tennis improved to 5-0 at home this season with a 5-2 win over Montana on Friday afternoon at the Sports Academy & Racquet Club.
 
This is the second time in the past three seasons USU has begun the year with a 5-0 home record after beginning the 2023 campaign with seven-straight wins at home.
 
Doubles 
The visiting Grizzlies captured the doubles point with wins at the first and third positions of the lineup, including a tightly contested tiebreaker at the third spot. At court two, sophomore Mohammad Alkotop and freshman Dmitri Goubin scored a 6-2 win for the Aggies before the doubles point was clinched for Montana.
 
Singles 
As they have on multiple occasions this season, the Aggies responded emphatically in singles play. Freshman Roman Venger tied the match at 1-1 with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at the fourth position. After the Grizzlies jumped ahead again with a win at the top spot in the lineup, senior David Martirosian kept pace for USU with a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles to keep the match tied. 
 
The Aggies earned their first lead of the match courtesy of a 7-5, 7-5 victory from Alktop at the second position. Freshman Eliot Nobel then delivered the clinching point, winning, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 5 singles. Goubin further cemented the Aggie victory with a 6-0, 6-4 victory at the sixth position.

Utah State returns to Mountain West play, traveling to take on No. 42 Boise State on Friday, March 28, at 5 p.m.
