Box Score LOGAN, Utah – Utah State softball (16-14, 1-2 MW) saw a seventh inning scoring rally come up just short as the Aggies dropped a 4-3 contest to in-state foe Weber State Tuesday afternoon at LaRee and LeGrand Johnson Field.
USU's high-powered offense was held in check through six innings, being held off the board and producing just three hits during that span. The Wildcats registered two runs before recording their first out, but were held to just a pair of runs the rest of the way, one in the third inning and one in the seventh.
With a 4-0 deficit entering the bottom of the seventh, the Aggies found life as a pair of singles by redshirt junior catcher/infielder
Kaylee Erickson and junior outfielder
Kya Pratt were followed by an RBI double by junior infielder
Alex Bunton for the team's first run of the game. Following a Weber State pitching change, back-to-back USU hitters reached on four-ball walks, including a bases-loaded walk for sophomore infielder
Tatum Silva to produce a second run.
A fly out to center field by senior infielder
Ariel Fifita brought a third runner across the plate, but with two runners in scoring position for the Aggies, a double play from third to first ended the rally.
In total, Utah State recorded eight hits to Weber State's 11, leaving six runners stranded during the contest. The lone Aggie with multiple hits was senior outfielder
Olivia Marble, who went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double.
In the pitching circle for USU, junior
Emmalyn Brinka started and pitched the first inning, allowing two earned runs and three hits. Junior right hander
Denay Smith entered in the second and took the Aggies the rest of the way, pitching 6.0 innings with just two earned runs and eight hits.
