AZUSA, Calif. — Junior
Logan Garnica broke the Utah State record in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase as Utah State track & field athletes posted three top-10 performances in school history at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, California, on Wednesday night.
Garnica's record-setting performance came in the second heat of the invite competition, where his record-setting time of 8:33.91 placed fourth in his race and 11th overall. The reigning NCAA Elite 90 Award winner in cross country bested the previous record of 8:36.30 set by graduate teammate
Max Wehrli at last year's Bryan Clay Invitational. Garnica, who previously ranked third in USU history after his performance two weeks ago at the Stanford Invitational, beat his personal best from that race by 8.07 seconds.
Sophomore
Shelby Jensen won her heat and finished 10th overall in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a scintillating time of 9:54.02. Jensen's time shaved over seven seconds off her previous personal best that ranked second in Aggie history. Her performance also ranks ninth in all of Division I as of Wednesday.
Sophomore
Garrett Woodhouse joined his teammate in Utah State's top-10 list with his 3,000-meter steeplechase time of 8:46.89. He finished second in his heat and 11th overall in the open competition and now ranks seventh in Aggie history in the event.
Utah State will continue its stay in California as they compete in the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa tomorrow and Friday, April 17-18, the Pacific Coast Invitational in Long Beach tomorrow, April 17, and the Beach Invitational in Long Beach from Friday-Saturday, April 18-19.
