Men’s Tennis Falls to New Mexico, 4-1

Match Recap: Men's Tennis |
LOGAN, Utah - Utah State men's tennis dropped its first home match of the season, falling to New Mexico, 4-1, on Thursday at the Sports Academy & Racquet Club.
 
Doubles 
The Lobos took the early lead in the match with a pair of 6-3 wins at each of the top two positions. At court three, senior Sergi Micó Fenollar and sophomore Keanu Rigby had built a 5-3 lead with a chance to win the match before the doubles point was clinched for UNM.
 
Singles 
New Mexico extended their lead to begin singles play with a win at the No. 4s before sophomore Mohammad Alkotop put the Aggies on the board with a 6-2, 7-5 victory at the second position. The Lobos, however, took a victory at the third position before claiming a three-set win at the top spot in the lineup to secure the 4-1 win. At the fifth position, freshman Eliot Nobel led, 3-2, early in the first set before the match was abandoned. Freshman Dmitri Goubin had also started his match at No. 6 singles and was tied 1-1 in the opening set before the match was clinched.
 
Next Up
Utah State prepares to celebrate Senior Day against Air Force on Saturday, April 17, at 11 a.m. at the Sports Academy & Racquet Club. The team will honor the careers of Sergi Micó Fenollar and David Martirosian 15 minutes prior to the start of the match.
