LOGAN, Utah - Utah State men's tennis kicks off Mountain West Championship play this week as the No. 3 seed, taking on No. 6 seed San Diego State in a first-round matchup on Wednesday, April 23, at 6 p.m. (MT) at the Darling Tennis Center in Las Vegas.
Should the Aggies advance, they will face the winner of New Mexico and UNLV.

HISTORY
Utah State leads the all-time series against San Diego State, 10-4. The Aggies are a perfect 6-0 at home and hold a 3-2 record on the road. After dropping early matchups in the 1980s, Utah State has controlled the series in recent years, winning nine of the last ten meetings. That run includes a dominant 4-0 home victory on February 16, 2025.

Utah State closed out the regular season on a high note, celebrating Senior Day with a 4-1 victory over Air Force on Saturday at the Sports Academy & Racquet Club. The win secured the Aggies the No. 3 seed in the upcoming Mountain West Tournament. Before the match, Utah State honored seniors
David Martirosian and Sergi Micó Fenollar for their outstanding careers.
In doubles play, Martirosian teamed up with freshman
Eliot Nobel to earn a 6-2 win at the top spot. Air Force responded with a 6-4 win at No. 2, then edged out the Aggies in a tiebreaker at No. 3 to claim the doubles point.
Utah State quickly bounced back in singles, led by dominant performances at the top of the lineup. Sophomore
Mohammad Alkotop evened the score with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2, marking his 16th dual singles victory of the season—tying for 11th-most in program history. Micó Fenollar followed with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 1, giving him 123 career victories and sole possession of fifth place all-time in combined singles and doubles wins at USU.
With momentum on their side, the Aggies clinched the match with strong finishes at the bottom of the lineup. Nobel broke serve late in the second set to earn a 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 5, while freshman
Dmitri Goubin sealed the team victory with a 7-6 (3), 7-5 win at No. 6. Martirosian was locked in a third set at No. 3, and freshman
Roman Venger had just started his third set at No. 4 when the match was clinched.

Utah State senior Sergi Micó Fenollar and sophomore
Mohammad Alkotop were both named Mountain West Men's Tennis Players of the Week.
Micó Fenollar went 4-0 across singles and doubles in wins over Idaho State and San Diego State, including clinching the match at No. 1 singles against the Aztecs.
Alkotop went 2-0 in singles, earning Utah State's only point against New Mexico and adding a dominant win over Air Force. It's his first career MW Player of the Week award, after previously being named Freshman of the Week in 2024.
