LOGAN, Utah — Utah State track and field junior
Logan Hammer was named the Mountain West Men's Field Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league on Tuesday.
Hammer broke his own school record in the pole vault twice this past weekend at meets in Long Beach, California. At the Pacific Coast Invitational on Thursday, he cleared 5.68 meters (18-7.5) on his second attempt, breaking the school record of 5.62 meters (18-5.25) that he set at last year's MW Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Two days later at the Beach Invitational, the two-time All-American broke the school record again with his clearance of 5.70 meters (18-8.25). He also owns the all-time MW record and the top mark in the NCAA this outdoor season. Hammer is ranked seventh out of all Americans, collegiate or professional, in the pole vault in 2025 and joins Akron's Hunter Garretson, whom he defeated in both meets last weekend, as the only American collegians to clear 5.70 meters.
Hammer earned his seventh career MW weekly honor, becoming the first Utah State track and field athlete to earn seven or more MW weekly accolades since Dillon Maggard claimed nine from 2017-18. The junior became the second Aggie to earn weekly honors this outdoor season, joining sophomore
Walker Cole. Hammer and freshmen
Daniel Chase,
Abbie Scott,
Presley Gray and
Diego Aguirre-Stewart earned conference accolades during the indoor track and field season.
Utah State will stay home this weekend to host the Aggie Invitational on Friday-Saturday, April 25-26, at Ralph Maughan Track Stadium. Admission is free to the public on both days.
