Jerrod Calhoun announced the signings of forwards Kolby King and MJ Collins on Wednesday
. Each will join the Aggies in 2025-26 for their final year of college eligibility.
Kolby King - 6'2 - 185 - Guard - Butler
King, a 6-foot-2, 185-pound guard, joins Utah State as a senior after spending the past year at Butler. Prior to that, he spent his sophomore year at Tulane in 2023-24, and his freshman season at St. John's in 2022-23.
"We are excited to welcome Kolby to the Aggie family," Calhoun said. "Kolby is a dynamic guard who brings toughness, athleticism and high-level shot making ability to the court. His ability to impact the game on both ends fits perfectly with our style of play. Kolby is battle-tested and well equipped to create for both himself and his teammates. We look forward to adding him to the mix with our talented returners and signees."
With the Bulldogs, King played in 34 of the team's 35 games, starting four times and averaging 18.8 minutes per contest. He scored 5.6 points, including seven double-digit scoring games, to go along with 3.9 rebounds and 1.7 assists per contest. King went for a season-high 16 points at Marquette and had a 14-point showing while shooting 4-for-4 from 3-point range against SMU. On the year, he shot 44.1 percent (64-of-145) from the floor and 40.0 percent (26-of-65) from behind the 3-point arc.
Prior to his time at Butler, King played one season at Tulane. There, he made 23 starts and played in all 31 games for the Green Wave, averaging 27.4 minutes per night. He scored 10.4 points per outing to go along with 3.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists. King scored in double-figures 14 times and went for 20-plus points four times, including a season-high 22 points on three occasions. He recorded a double-double of 22 points and 10 assists to go along with six rebounds against Dillard. On the year, King shot 47.6 percent (110-of-231) from the field and 37.9 percent (39-of-103) from 3-point range. He also totaled 42 steals and 11 blocks.
King's college career began at St. John's, where he appeared in 26 games off the bench, playing 7.7 minutes per contest. He averaged 1.7 points and 1.1 rebounds per contest, scoring a season-best eight points in a season-high 18 minutes in the BIG EAST Tournament quarterfinals against Marquette.
King, a native of Pompano Beach, Florida, prepped at Pembroke Pines (FL) High School, where he was rated as a three-star recruit in the class of 2022 according to ESPN, 247Sports and Rivals. As a senior, he led the Jaguars to a 25.4 record while averaging 15.3 points per game to earn Sun Sentinel All-County Player of the Year honors. In 2021, King helped Pembroke Pines to a Class 5A state championship, scoring 27 points in the title game. He also led the Jaguars to a state runner-up finish in 2020. King played club basketball with Team Breakdown, leading the Under Armour AAU circuit with 19.6 points per game in 2021.
MJ Collins - 6'4 - 190 - Guard - Vanderbilt
Collins, a 6-foot-4, 190 pound forward, will join the Aggies for his senior season after spending the past year at Vanderbilt and beginning his college career with two seasons at Virginia Tech.
"We are thrilled to welcome MJ to the Aggie family," Calhoun said. "MJ's exceptional versatility on the perimeter will allow him to make an immediate impact at all three levels of the game. His length and athleticism will provide a major lift for us on the defensive side of the ball. MJ has thrived at the highest levels of college basketball and his winning pedigree will be a welcome addition to our program."
The Clover, South Carolina, native made 32 appearances with one start for the Commodores in 2024-25, averaging 20.3 minutes per contest. Collins scored 7.4 points to go along with 2.3 rebounds per game while helping Vanderbilt to an appearance in the NCAA Tournament. He recorded eight double-digit scoring performances, including scoring a season-best 16 points to go along with four rebounds at Texas A&M. He also went for 15 points twice, including a 15-point, four-rebound showing against his former team Virginia Tech.
Prior to his time at Vanderbilt, Collins spent his freshman and sophomore years at Virginia Tech. There, he saw action in 66 games with 44 starts across the two seasons. As a sophomore, he started 28 of the team's 34 contests, averaging 29.5 minutes per outing. He averaged 7.4 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game. Collins scored a career-high 20 points to go along with four boards against Louisville, and reached double-figures in the scoring column 11 times on the year. He had an 18-point, three-rebound showing at North Carolina, and had three-straight 15-point games against Notre Dame, Florida State and Richmond.
As a Freshman for the Hokies, Collins played in all 34 of the team's games with 16 starts. He scored in double-figures three times, including a season-best 12 points at Notre Dame. He led the team's freshmen in minutes played, averaging 24.7 minutes per outing.
Collins prepped at Westminster Catawba in Rock Hill, South Carolina, where he was a two-year letterwinner, before transferring to Combine Academy in Lincolnton, North Carolina, for his senior season. He was rated a four-star recruit and ranked 22nd at his position by ESPN, and was tabbed the second-best player in the state of South Carolina and the 27th-best combo guard nationally by 247Sports. Collins helped Combine to a 25-5 record and a state championship in 2021-22 as the team finished the year 25-5, ranked No. 20 in the country. As a junior, he was an all-state and all-conference honoree after averaging 23 points per game.
