LAS VEGAS - The singles lineup powered Utah State men's tennis to a 4-1 win over San Diego State on Wednesday evening at the Darling Tennis Center to advance to the semifinal round of the Mountain West Tournament. The Aggies will face No. 2-seeded New Mexico tomorrow at 6 p.m. (MT).
 
Doubles 
The Aztecs took an early lead in the match with doubles victories at the second and third positions of the doubles lineup. At the top spot, senior David Martirosian and freshman Eliot Nobel were mired in a 5-5 battle at the time the doubles point was clinched.
 
Singles 
Behind 1-0 to begin singles play, Utah State stormed back with four straight-set victories to clinch their spot in the semifinal round. Sophomore Mohammad Alkotop kickstarted the comeback and tied the match at 1-1 with a dominant 6-0, 6-2 win at the second position of the lineup. Nobel then gave USU the lead with a strong performance at court five for a 6-3, 6-0 win.
 
Freshman Roman Venger continued the Aggie momentum with a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles, before senior Sergi Micó Fenollar provided the clinching point with a 6-4, 6-3 win at the top spot in the lineup. At No. 6 singles, freshman Dmitri Goubin also battled back to force a third set before the match was left unfinished.
 
With the victory, Utah State improved to 11-9 all-time at the Mountain West Tournament, including six straight wins in the quarterfinal round.

Utah State will face second-seeded New Mexico in the semifinal round of the Mountain West Tournament on Thursday, April 24, at 6 p.m. (MT).
