LAS VEGAS - Utah State men's tennis improved to 3-1 in Mountain west play, recording a 4-2 win at UNLV on Sunday afternoon at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
 
Doubles 
At the second position of the doubles lineup, sophomore Mohammad Alkotop and freshman Dmitri Goubin put the Aggies ahead with a 6-3 win before the Rebels knotted up the doubles competition with a win at the No. 1s. With the doubles point coming down to a tiebreaker at the third position, the Rebels ultimately took the first lead of the match with a 7-6 (5) win at the No. 3s.
 
Singles 
Alkotop put Utah State on the board quickly in singles play, winning by opponent retirement at the second position after building a 4-0 lead in the opening set. The Aggies then took the lead courtesy of a straight-sets win by Goubin at the No. 6 position, 6-1, 6-3.
 
After the Rebels evened the match with a win at the first position of the singles lineup, Utah State scored a pair of straight-sets wins at the third and fourth positions to clinch the team win. At the third court, senior David Martirosian put USU in the lead with a 6-3, 6-4 victory. Freshman Roman Venger then delivered the clinching point, winning at court four, 7-5, 6-2. At the fifth position, freshman Eliot Nobel rebounded to win the second set and was tied 2-2 in the decisive third set before the match was abandoned.

Utah State returns to the Sports Academy & Racquet Club for a non-conference matchup against Idaho on Sunday, April 13, at noon.
