LOGAN, Utah – Utah State softball (23-16, 8-2 MW) lost to Idaho State Tuesday afternoon at LaRee and LeGrand Johnson Field, falling 13-2.
After allowing a Bengal run on an RBI double in the top of the first, Utah State wasted no time responding as the third pitch the Aggies faced resulted in a home run over the center field fence by senior infielder
Ariel Fifita. Junior infielder
Alex Bunton followed later in the inning with an RBI single to bring senior infielder
Giselle Gonzalez across the bag from second as the Aggies took a 2-1 lead.
Idaho State scored at least one run in every inning of the contest. The Bengals pulled even at 2-2 with a single run in the second, then tacked on two more in the third. ISU score a single run in each the fourth and fifth innings, then added on three more in the sixth and four more in the seventh.
Utah State went 5-for-24 (.208) at the plate, with four different players recording hits. Senior outfielder
Olivia Marble led the Aggie bats, going 2-for-3.
In the pitching circle, USU utilized five different arms. Junior right-hander
Emmalyn Brinka started and threw the first 4.0 innings, giving up eight hits and five earned runs. Junior
Carly Limosnero faced two batters in the fourth, before juniors
Denay Smith,
Rylie Pindel and Sydney Saldaña each took an inning.
UP NEXT
Utah State (23-15, 8-2 MW) will now remain at home for a three-game conference series at LaRee and LeGrand Johnson Field as the Aggies host Fresno State with games April 11-13.
