BOISE, Idaho – Utah State softball (26-24, 11-10 MW) lost to Boise State Friday night at Huber Field in Boise, as the Broncos rallied late to earn a 7-6 win over the Aggies.
Each side tallied a hit in a scoreless first inning, before the Aggies were able to pull ahead for an early lead with back-to-back-to-back solo home runs in the second. The end of the batting order came up big for Utah State as it was the 7-8-9 spots producing two-out dingers. First, it was senior outfielder
Olivia Marble over the center field fence. Then, junior infielder
Alex Bunton down the left field line, then senior designated player
Lyndsey Madrigal over left center to make it 3-0.
Boise State tallied its first run of the night in the bottom of the second with a bases-loaded walk, before each side scored a single run in the third. For Utah State, it was an RBI single to left field by senior infielder
Giselle Gonzalez to bring a runner in from third. The Broncos countered with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning, then two more in the fourth to pull even at 4-4.
The Aggies once again pulled ahead in the fifth when junior outfielder
Kya Pratt recorded a two-out RBI to center field to pull ahead 5-4. The Aggies would tack on another in the sixth, courtesy of an RBI double to center field by Marble, but a three-RBI double with two outs in the bottom of the inning put the hosts in front. In need of at least a run in the seventh, USU was retired in order.
Utah State recorded nine hits to Boise State's 11, going 9-for-30 (.300) at the plate. Leading the Aggie bats was Marble, who went 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, two RBIs and a run scored. Fifita also had multiple knocks, going 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and a run scored.
Junior right-hander
Rylie Pindel went all six innings in the circle for USU, allowing 11 hits and seven earned runs while walking six batters and earning one strikeout. She allowed just two extra base hits in the contest.
