LOGAN, Utah – Utah State volleyball coach
Rob Neilson announced the signing of Cala Cooper (Lehi, Utah / North Dakota) on Monday.
"We are so excited to welcome Cala back to her home state," Neilson said. "She was a big-time contributor this past season with North Dakota and we are excited for what she adds to our group both as an elite volleyball player and as an amazing person and teammate."
Cooper, a 6-foot-0 opposite and outside hitter, comes to Logan after spending her freshman season at North Dakota. Cooper started the first 12 matches of the season for the Fighting Hawks before her season was cut short due to injury. Cooper's marks of 2.83 points and 2.44 kills per set plus a .268 hitting percentage would have ranked first, second and second, respectively, over the full season for North Dakota. She totaled 105 kills, eclipsing 10 kills in six matches and recording a season-high 17 against New Mexico. Defensively, Cooper totaled 29.0 blocks, recording six matches with at least three blocks and also recording her season high against the Lobos with six blocks.
Cooper played four seasons at Skyridge High School in Lehi, Utah. As a senior, Cooper finished with 227 kills and 72 blocks, earning first-team all-state honors and being named the region MVP. Cooper ranked second on the team in both hitting percentage (.295) and kills per set (2.5), and ranked third with 58 total blocks to help Skyridge HS to a 28-2 overall record and a runner-up finish in the state tournament. As a junior, Cooper ranked second on the team with 72 total blocks to help the Falcons to a third-place finish at the state tournament. For her career, Cooper finished with over 400 kills on a .225 hitting percentage, also adding 137 blocks and 80 digs.
