LOGAN, Utah - Utah State soccer, fresh off of back-to-back Mountain West Tournament championships in 2023 and 2024, was picked to win this year's regular season title by the league's coaches. Additionally, three Aggies were selected to the MW Soccer Watch List.
USU received 128 points and a league-best six first-place votes, ahead of second-place Boise State's 121 points and three first-place votes.
Utah State finished second in the MW regular season standings last year with a 7-1-3 record in league play and a 18-1-5 mark overall. The Aggies went on to defeat Boise State in the conference tournament championship to repeat as tournament champions before earning an 8-seed and hosting an NCAA Tournament game for the first time in program history.
Members of the MW Soccer Watch List, which replaces the preseason all-conference team used in previous years, include the senior forward duo of Kaylie Chambers and Tess Werts, along with junior midfielder Summer Diamond. Chambers and Diamond each earned spots on the watch list last season as well.
Chambers is coming off of an outstanding junior campaign in which she totaled 18 points on five goals and eight assists. Her eight assists were tied for the second-most in the Mountain West, and were the fifth-most in a single season in program history. Chambers earned Mountain West Tournament Most Valuable Player accolades after scoring both of the team's goals in the championship match. Chambers started 19 matches and played 1,173 minutes in 2024, the second-most by an Aggie forward.
Werts earned All-Mountain West and All-Pacific Region First Team accolades after leading Utah State in points (25), goals (8) and assists (9) as a junior in 2024. Her 25 points ranked second-most by any player in the Mountain West, while she led the league in assists and ranked third in goals scored. Her nine assists are tied for the third-most by a player in USU program history, and her 25 points rank tied for seventh. Werts started 21 matches last season and led the Aggie front line in minutes played with 1,227.
Diamond also earned All-Pacific Region First Team honors last season, and was also named to the All-Mountain West Second Team. She started 23 of the team's 24 games in 2024, totaling 15 points on five goals and five assists in 1,531 minutes of action. Diamond scored a team-best three game-winners last season, netting the deciding goal in games against Utah, Weber State and UNLV.
While Utah State returns just four starters from last year's championship squad, the Aggies have 10 returning letterwinners including eight of the team's top 11 goal scorers. USU also welcomes in 12 newcomers this year, including four transfers and eight freshmen.
