Football’s Miles Davis Named America First Credit Union Utah State Student-Athlete of the Week

LOGAN, Utah – Utah State running back Miles Davis has been named the America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending on Sunday, August 31. The award is voted on by a state-wide media panel.
 
With their sponsorship of the student-athlete of the week, America First Credit Union donates funds directly to support student-athlete scholarships.

Miles Davis, Running Back (5-11, 215, Gr., Las Vegas, Nevada/BYU)
  • Helped Utah State post a season-opening 28-16 home win against UTEP.
  • Recorded a career-high 184 all-purpose yards in just his second career start.
  • Rushed for 88 yards on 12 carries, including a 58-yard touchdown.
  • His rushing touchdown was the third of his career, but his first since 2020.
  • Caught a career-high six passes for a career-best 61 yards, including a career long of 30 yards.
  • Returned two kickoffs for 35 yards.

Nominees from other sports for USU Student-Athlete of the Week included:
Soccer – Sophomore forward Ellie Hendrix (St. George, Utah) helped Utah State to an 0-0-1 week with a 1-1 draw against in-state foe Utah. Against the Utes, Hendrix was responsible for the team's lone goal as she found the net in the 28th minute to give USU a 1-0 advantage. This was the fourth goal of Hendrix's career. Hendrix took a team-high two shots in the contest, both of which were on frame, while playing 49 minutes.
 
Volleyball – Senior middle blocker Tierney Barlow (Colorado Springs, Colorado) led Utah State as the team went 1-2 at the Rainbow Wahine Volleyball Classic in Honolulu, sweeping Hawaii (3-0) in between a pair of 3-2 losses to San Diego and Marquette. Barlow led USU with a .385 hitting percentage across the three matches, finishing with 41 kills and a 3.15 kills-per-set average. Barlow topped 13 kills in all three matches, finishing with 14 kills against San Diego on a .194 hitting percentage, 14 kills on a .600 hitting percentage against Hawaii, and 13 kills on a .444 hitting percentage against Marquette. Barlow also ranked second on the team with 10 total blocks and added nine digs and two service aces during the weekend.
 
Men's Cross Country – Sophomore Bryce Hill (Ridgecrest, Calif.) finished in eighth place in the 7K race at the Utah State Alumni Challenge. His finishing time of 21:09 paced the USU men to a second place finish out of four teams with 49 points.
 
Women's Cross Country – Junior Natalie Swain (South Jordan, Utah) finished in second place, best among all collegiate runners, in the 5K race at the Utah State Alumni Challenge. In her first competition since March, she posted a time of 17:58, her best career cross country 5K time, to lead the Aggies to a second-place team finish out of four teams with 35 points.
