KICKOFF COVERAGE
• Utah State is playing Vanderbilt for the first time in series history. USU is 2-27 all-time against current members of the SEC as it posted a 35-6 win at Kentucky in 1970 and was awarded a 2-0 forfeit win against Oklahoma in 1972. USU is 0-1 against the SEC this season as it lost at No. 19 Texas A&M in week two 44-22.
• Utah State is 3-1 to start a season for the first time since 2021, when that team won its first three games and was 3-1 over its first four outings. The last time USU won four of its first five games was in 2018 when that team started the year with a 10-1 record. Utah State is 1-0 to start Mountain West play for the first time since 2021.
• Utah State is 6-71 all-time against Associated Press-ranked teams, but has won five of its last 22 games, including its 46-13 win at No. 19 San Diego State in the 2021 Mountain West Championship game, which was its last win against an AP top-25 team. The highest-ranked team USU has ever defeated was at No. 18 BYU (35-20) in 2014. USU is 3-56 all-time on the road against AP top-25 teams.
• Utah State has never started a season by playing AP top-25 teams in its first two road games prior to this year. USU lost at No. 19 Texas A&M (44-22) on Sept. 7, and plays at No. 18 Vanderbilt this weekend.
• Graduate QB
Bryson Barnes is one of 13 FBS players, including one of just three quarterbacks, to rush for at least six touchdowns this year. Barnes is tied with Iowa's Mark Gronowski and Tulane's Jake Retzlaff for the most rushing touchdowns in the nation by a quarterback. In fact, Barnes has more rushing touchdowns (6) than 53 FBS programs this season.
• Barnes' six rushing touchdowns this season by a quarterback is two shy of tying the single season school record of eight set by Chuckie Keeton in 2012. The school record for rushing touchdowns in a career by a quarterback is 19 set by Kent Myers (2014-17). Barnes currently has 11 rushing touchdowns in his two years at USU.
• Barnes ranks first in the Mountain West in seven different statistical categories. Overall, he is tied for second in the nation in total touchdowns with 14, third in points responsible for per game at 22.0, fifth in rushing touchdowns (6), 19th in total offense (294.8 ypg), and 24th in passing touchdowns (8).
• Utah State announced this week the hiring of Cameron Walker as its new Vice President and Director of Athletics. Walker comes to USU from Tennessee where he was the Senior Deputy AD/Chief Strategy Officer.
