LOGAN, Utah — Utah State soccer (4-4-3, 1-0-1 MW) earned its first win of Mountain West play on Sunday afternoon at Chuck & Gloria Bell Field, earning a controlling 3-0 win over Wyoming.
The Aggies wasted no time taking control of this game, scoring less than a minute in. A pass across midfield from graduate midfielder Rine Yonaha found senior forward Tess Werts, who delivered a transition cross from near the corner to the right foot of senior forward Kaylie Chambers and straight into the back of the net.
Utah State tacked on another in the 36th minute for its first multi-goal first half of the season, when the first touch of the match by sophomore forward Mia Mullenmeister made it 2-0. Mullenmeister subbed into the game prior to an Aggie corner kick, and immediately made her mark when the corner from Yonaha met her by the far post for a right-footer past the keeper.
After posting an 8-2 shots advantage in the first 45 minutes, Utah State remained aggressive following the halftime break. In the 53rd minute, a one-on-one takeaway by Werts led to another transition opportunity. This time, it was Werts finding Chambers on the breakaway. With two Aggies downfield and just the keeper to beat, Chambers passed to freshman forward Samantha Sellers at the last second for the first goal of her career.

UTAH STATE HEAD COACH MANNY MARTINS:
"I'm pretty happy about our performance. One of the things we've been talking about is trying to be consistent and put together 90 minutes of the type of soccer we want to play on both sides of the ball. I thought we did that. I'm really happy that we were able to put together a 90 minute performance on both sides of the ball. Keeping a shutout, scoring three goals, a freshman getting their first goal. It was great to have our veterans involved, Rine (Yonaha) was involved in two goals, Tess (Werts) was involved in two goals and Kaylie (Chambers) was involved in two goals."
