LOGAN, Utah – Utah State men's tennis posted a 5-2 win against Northern Arizona in its home opener here at the Sports Academy and Racquet Club on Friday. USU improves to 3-1 on its spring season with the win while NAU suffered its first loss and is now 4-1.

Doubles
Utah State won the doubles point as freshman Emmanuel Alex and sophomore Xavier Calvelo teamed up for a 6-2 win at the second position, while freshman Jakub Medved and sophomore Eliot Nobel notched a 6-2 win at the first position. Senior Jean-Baptiste Badon and sophomore Eemil Pasanen held a 5-3 lead in their match at the third position when it was left unfinished.
Singles
Nobel continued the momentum for Utah State into singles play, posting a straight sets win (6-2, 6-1) at the No. 3 spot. Sophomore Roman Venger followed with a straight sets win (6-1, 6-1) at the No. 4 spot. Badon then clinched the match for USU with a three sets win (6-4, 5-7, 6-1) at the No. 1 spot. Northern Arizona then won points at the No. 2 and No. 6 positions, both in three sets. Medved concluded the match for the Aggies with a three-sets win (6-7 (4-7), 6-1, 1-0 (10-3)) at the No. 6 spot.
Up Next
Utah State returns to action next weekend as it travels to Portland, Oregon, for a pair of matches. First, USU will play at Oregon on Friday, Feb. 6, at 5 p.m. (MT). USU then faces Portland in a neutral site match in Eugene on Saturday, Feb. 7, at 1 p.m. (MT).
