LOGAN, Utah – Top Drawer Soccer announced its Women's Midseason Top 100 Player and Top 100 Freshman rankings this week, with three Utah State players being recognized.
Sophomore defender Summer Sofonia is ranked as the No. 83 overall player in the country with fellow sophomore defender Capriel Winder close behind at No. 99. Freshman defender Lila Emmetsberger is ranked as the No. 55 freshman in the NCAA.
The trio has contributed to one of the nation's most tenacious defenses, as Utah State has allowed just nine goals in 16 games this season for a 0.56 goals against average, 20th in the nation and just shy of the program record of 0.55 set in 2012. USU has posted 10 shutouts this year, including in four of its five Pac-12 contests, for the 14th-best shutout percentage in the nation. The Aggies are also limiting opponents to just 7.1 shots and 2.6 shots on goal per game.
Sofonia, a native of Hyrum, Utah, was the only freshman in the country last season to capture all-region first team accolades. This season, she has started every contest and played every minute of the season, 1,440 minutes in total. She was named the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 13, after scoring the game-winning goal against No. 13 BYU.
Winder, a native of North Logan, Utah, ranked third in total minutes played as a true freshman in 2025 with 1,867. This year, she has once again started every contest for USU and has played 1,242 of a possible 1,440 minutes. She has tallied a team-best seven assists this year, ranking tied for sixth all-time in a season in program history.
Emmetsberger, a true freshman from Denver, Colorado, has played a key role in the Aggie defense this season as well. After contributing lightly in the first few games of the year, she took a starting role five games in and has started the 11 contests since. Emmetsberger has logged 817 minutes on the pitch this year, totaling one assist with six shots.
