Soccer’s Hadli Barrera Named America First Credit Union Utah State Student-Athlete of the Week

LOGAN, Utah – Utah State soccer sophomore midfielder/forward Hadli Barrera has been named the America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending on Sunday, Oct. 4. The award is voted on by a state-wide media panel.

With their sponsorship of the student-athlete of the week, America First Credit Union donates funds directly to support student-athlete scholarships.

Barrera, a native of Hyrum, Utah, helped Utah State to a 2-0-0 week with a 2-1 win over No. 22 Texas State on Thursday and a 3-0 win at Colorado State on Sunday. Against the Rams, Barrera recorded a brace with a pair of second-half goals, scoring in the 72nd and 80th minutes. She took three shots with two on goal and played 38 minutes. Against the Bobcats, Barrera played 13 minutes as a reserve. On the week, Barrera totaled two goals, three shots with two shots on goal in 51 total minutes on the pitch.

UP NEXT
No. 19 Utah State (9-2-2, 2-0-0 Pac-12) will host Washington State at Chuck & Gloria Bell Field on Thursday, Oct. 8. The match will kick off at 3 p.m., and will be streamed on the Pac-12's YouTube page. 

TICKETS
Fans can purchase season tickets now here. Adult season tickets are available for $100, while youth can gain access to all games by joining the Junior Aggie Kids Club for $40. All seating at Chuck and Gloria Bell Field is general admission. Seating in the stadium bleachers is first come, first served. Fans are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets for grass and berm seating.

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY –
 Junior Jayden Holdsworth (Orem, Utah) was the top collegiate finisher at the Idaho State-hosted Bengal Invitational last weekend as he completed the 8k race in 24:52.4 to lead the Aggies to a team victory, scoring a perfect 15 points.

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY – Freshman Mia Taylor (Eagle Mountain, Utah) set a personal best in the 5k race at the Idaho State-hosted Bengal Invitational last weekend, clocking an 18:49.3 time to place ninth overall and fifth among collegians. Taylor paced the Aggies to a second-place result, leading the team in just her second collegiate race.

GOLF – Junior Toby Heider (Kimberly, Idaho) tied for 17th at 2-under 208 (71-67-70) for his best-ever 54-hole score at the Colorado-hosted Mark Simpson Invitational last week. It is his second-best tournament finish, second-ever top 20 finish and fifth career under par finish. His 3-under 67 during his second round is his lowest round ever. It is his third career round in the 60s and 10th career round under par. USU finished the tournament in 13th place out of 17 teams with a 17-over 857 (283-281-293).

FOOTBALL – Senior running back Javen Jacobs (Chandler, Ariz.) rushed for a career-high 139 yards, including a career long rush of 64 yards, on 10 carries for his first-career 100-yard rushing game in Utah State's 37-18 loss at No. 22 Boise State last weekend. Jacobs also caught three passes for four yards, including a 1-yard touchdown. He finished the game with 142 all-purpose yards. It is the second time this year and seventh time in his career he has had 100-plus all-purpose yards in a game.

VOLLEYBALL – Sophomore libero/defensive specialist Lily LaFlesch (Gilbert, Ariz.) led Utah State with 49 total digs as the Aggies went 1-1 on the week with a 3-1 home win against Fresno State and a 3-2 home loss to Colorado State. LaFlesch topped 20 digs in both matches and averaged 5.44 digs per set for the week. She set a career-high with 29 digs against CSU, tying for the sixth-most digs by an Aggie during the 25-point, rally-scoring era (since 2008) and added six assists and an ace. Her 29 digs are the second-most in a match by any Pac-12 player this season. LaFlesch finished with 20 digs against FSU, tying her then-career-high, and added five assists and two aces.

MEN'S TENNIS – Freshman Alejandro Daniel Garcia (Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico) went 4-4 during Utah State's weekend at the Utah Invitational, picking up a pair of wins in both doubles and singles play. Playing alongside fellow freshman Adam Miner, the duo scored a pair of wins in doubles play over a pair of Falcons partnerships, earning a 6-2 win over AF's Sebastian Mazur and Gavin Maddan and a 6-4 win over the Falcons' Jaden Wollen-Li and Caden Lee. In singles play, Daniel Garcia earned wins over AF's Daniel Tonkal (6-3, 6-1) and Utah's Iker Ibarrondo (7-6, 3-6, 7-5).
